With the 2011 Legislative Session underway, early childhood advocates are working hard to keep adequate state funding available to ensure that our state's youngest citizens have access to quality health and educational programs. Invest in Kids Now: a coalition proposing an annual distribution increase of 1.5 percent from the NM Land Grant Permanent Fund that will be shared between K-12 and early education, funding a continuum of learning from prenatal to graduation.

NM Early Childhood Action Network (NM ECAN): learn more about the 2011 New Mexico Early Childhood Policy Platform and the DRAFT Early Childhood Legislative Agenda.
Attorney General King on early childhood education: A plan to use some interest on the state’s “rainy day fund” to finance early childhood education drew a crowd of supporters today [Jan. 24] to the state Capitol. Among the supporters was Attorney General Gary King, who said kids who are adequately prepared for school require fewer state resources as they get older.
